Micro Inclusive Design Challenge for Businesses

Location: Inclusive Design Institute at OCAD U, 49 McCaul St, M4W 2G8, Toronto
Time: Saturday, January 19th, 2019, 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Note: Free to all, no experience required. Supplies, lunch and refreshments are provided.

BIG IDeA project at OCAD U would like to invite you to be a part of the next Micro Inclusive Design Challenge for businesses and other organizations. You will have the opportunity to explore inclusive design from two perspectives:

1) Make your business and services more accessible. We can help develop creative solutions for all kinds of challenges like easy ways to create accessible menus, making environments quieter, improving portable ramps, displaying goods in crowded spaces and providing service even when people can’t access the building.

2) Re-design or innovate one of your creations, products or goods.

Register for the next Micro Inclusive Design Challenge today and come with your own accessibility challenge or join an innovation team working on submitted challenge. Either way, you will learn how to bring inclusive design thinking to your business and will help improve accessibility for your customers.

Biome Inclusive Design Challenge: Accessible Cannabis

Location: Inclusive Design Institute/Red Lab at OCAD U, 49 McCaul St, M4W 2G8, Toronto
Time: Friday, January 25th, 2019, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Saturday, January 26th, 2019, 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM
Note: Free to all, no experience required. Supplies, lunch and refreshments are provided.

BIG IDeA and Biome Grow Inc. would like to invite you to be a part of the next Inclusive Design Challenge: Accessible Cannabis and a chance to win part of the $1500 in prize money!

There was a lot of “buzz” about the legalization of cannabis leading up to October 17th, 2018. But while there was a lot of talk about availability, there was little to no discussion about accessibility. This is something Biome Grow Inc. wanted to address. Biome is steered by leaders in the cannabis space–in finance, growing technologies, regulatory affairs, business building and marketing. And this position of industry leadership also extends to accessibility through inclusive design, making sure all of their retail stores, production facilities and online platforms are accessible to everyone. For this new Inclusive Design Challenge, we are looking for a diverse group of creative minds to work on these questions:

  • How can stores be inclusively designed to create the best retail experience for ALL customers and also to comply with the unique requirements for product display in physical retail locations, which vary from province to province?
  • How do we build inclusive production facilities and operations (e.g. greenhouse, buildings ventilation, manual versus automatic procedures, IT systems, and others) to ensure equal opportunity for everyone?
  • How can we design our online educational and retail platforms to maximize accessibility and quality of the experience for ALL customers?
